Both directions are legitimate — the score measures fullness per calorie, not virtue. Every version is the same dish, rebalanced.
Ingredients
- 1 loaf French bread, split lengthwise400 g
- 7 tbsp butter, softened100 g
- 4 cloves garlic, grated15 g
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped8 g
- 1/4 tsp salt2 g
- 1/3 cup grated parmesan (optional)30 g
Every ingredient links to its food page — same data, same score, same formula.
Steps
- Mash the butter with the garlic, parsley and salt.
- Spread it to the very edges of both halves — the edges toast first and unbuttered edges burn dry.
- Bake cut-side up at 200°C for 12 minutes; parmesan in the last 3 if using. For soft garlic bread, wrap the closed loaf in foil instead.
- Cut into fat slices with a serrated knife and serve hot.
Why this score
engineered against fullnessFat and refined carbohydrate converging the way engineered food does; dense calories with little protein, volume or fiber to fill you up.
Three routes to fullness — one is enough
What pulls it down
Computed on the finished dish, not an average of the parts: 1956 kcal goes into the pot, 555 g of ingredients comes out as ~480 g of food → 407 kcal per 100 g. Cooking moves water, and energy density is the score's biggest lever — so we show the math. Full formula here.
