Turkey chili
The leaner pot that still eats like chili: ground turkey with beans, tomato and a full tablespoon of chile. Weeknight-fast, freezer-friendly, and it outscores the beef version.

Both directions are legitimate — the score measures fullness per calorie, not virtue. Every version is the same dish, rebalanced.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lb ground turkey700 g
- 1 tbsp canola oil15 g
- 1 large yellow onions, diced180 g
- 1 red bell peppers, diced150 g
- 3 cloves garlic, minced12 g
- 1 3/4 tbsp chili powder14 g
- 2 1/2 tsp ground cumin5 g
- 2 tbsp tomato paste33 g
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes700 g
- 1 can black beans, drained240 g
- 1 can canned kidney beans, drained240 g
- 1 cup chicken broth240 g
- 1 tsp salt6 g
Every ingredient links to its food page — same data, same score, same formula.
Steps
- Brown the turkey hard in the oil — leaner meat sticks, so let it sit and release rather than stirring it into grey crumbs.
- Onion and pepper until soft, then garlic, spices and tomato paste for a minute until the paste darkens.
- Tomatoes, beans, broth and salt; simmer 30 minutes uncovered until thick.
- Taste at the end. Turkey needs a little more salt than beef does, and a squeeze of lime doesn't hurt.

Why this score
solidly fillingNo single route carries this one — a moderate amount of protein, volume and fiber.
Three routes to fullness — one is enough
What pulls it down
Nothing here converges the way engineered food does — no sugar, no savoury and no alcohol penalty.
Computed on the finished dish, not an average of the parts: 2211 kcal goes into the pot, 2535 g of ingredients comes out as ~1900 g of food → 116 kcal per 100 g. Cooking moves water, and energy density is the score's biggest lever — so we show the math. Full formula here.
